This book is 164 pages of information and photographs on 8 ½ x 11″ paper with a comb binding. This allows the book to stay open to any page and still lay flat. It is easy to read, informative and encompasses a full range of topics related to tracking. The photos are used to illustrate tracking lessons. There are tracking diagrams and charts to further illustrate the tracking concepts discussed. Different methods of teaching are discussed with preferences noted but the choice of method is clearly up to the reader. Some of the concepts are not as widely known and these are discussed in great detail to provide the reader with as much information as possible should he decide to try one of these methods.
The book is clear enough for a beginner to use but has information that is helpful to a seasoned tracker as well. The book contains how to information, sample track shapes and when to use them, test procedures, lists of experiences needed before entering each different level of test, problem solving ideas and procedures, sections on tracking puppies and old dogs, some general information on scent and observations on how dogs and other animals use scent in their daily lives. The photographs include a wide variety of breeds including dogs of different sizes.
